LAKHA KHAN Live @ Lodi - The Garden Restaurant

Janamasthmi celebrations with Krishna Bhajans by Lakha Khan at the next edition of Amarrass Nights@Lodi, Saturday 27th August 2016.

LAKHA KHAN (Rajasthan, India) - a living legend and the undisputed master of the sindhi sarangi, Lakha Khan is a national treasure. A Sangeet Natak Akademi award winner for his contribution to Rajasthani folk music, and perhaps the greatest exponent of the sindhi sarangi. He was born in the village of Raneri in Jodhpur district, Rajasthan, India into a family of traditional musicians from the Manganiyar community. He was trained at an early age by his father Tharu Khan and later, by his uncle Mohammad Khan, in rendering the compositions of the Multan school of Manganiyars. His first public performances were in the late 60's and 70's under the guidance of the late Komal Kothari, a highly regarded Indian historian and ethnomusicologist. Today, Lakha Khan is one of the last remaining Manganiyars to have mastered this complex instrument and to carry forward the centuries-old musical tradition of Rajasthani and Multani folk and Sufi music.

Dawda Jobarteh Live @ Lodi - The Garden Restaurant

Dawda Jobarteh (Gambia/Denmark) presents Jazz Kora Variations at the next edition of Amarrass Nights@Lodi on 31st August 2016.

Born 1976 in The Gambia, Dawda is the grandson of Alhaji Bai Konte, the son of Amadou Bansang Jobarteh and the nephew of both Malamini Jobarteh and Dembo Konte. In the world of traditional Manding music, and in particular that of the West African kora, these are serious calling cards and not to be taken lightly. Yet Dawda was not, at first, a kora player and even today his instrument is one acquired after he'd left the land of his birth and settled in Denmark. No, Dawda learnt his music sitting at the feet of his uncle Malamini and playing the calabash. And perhaps it is this training as a percussionist, only coming to the kora later and on his own terms, which makes his music so unique.

Because make no mistake, Dawda and his music are unique. Clearly the universal language of Jazz permeate his work, but Dawda defies convention to include some deeply personal statements. Politely but consistently, with power and conviction and the support of long-term friends and band members, Dawda Jobarteh brings his mature, contemporary vision to an ancient tradition.

Read the Lakshman Sagar hotel review on Telegraph Travel UK

"An utterly peaceful retreat for nature-lovers and stargazers. This former hunting lodge, decorated in an engagingly whimsical style, looks out across the barren beauty of Rajasthan’s ‘badlands’. A perfect choice for kicking back and recharging on a cultural tour."

Lakshman Sagar, Rajasthan
Location
The property is a three-hour drive east of Jodhpur, sunk into natural folds in the soft granite hillocks that surround a small lake where peacocks parade and nilgai antelope come to drink. The small traditional town of Raipur is a 15-minute drive through vegetable farms.

Style & character
The twin 19th-century hunting lodges have been given an imaginative makeover: splashes of candy pink and baby blue lift the crisp cream plastered walls. Inside there are secluded alcoves, balconies and terraces that capture the breeze and the far-reaching views. A rock-cut swimming pool stretches out below. Across the lake, the 12 thatched rock-and-adobe cottages are embedded in the landscape. The hotel has an eco ethos, sourcing building materials, furnishings and food as locally as possible. More

Live The Nomadic Life, Albeit In The Lap Of Luxury At Lakshman Sagar

Ten-Second Takeaway

Said to be one of the hidden gems of Rajasthan, Lakshman Sagar lets you experience the rustic and slow life while also offering luxuries like a private splash pool.

Back In Time

Crossing the bumpy roads of Raipur, under the hot sun, when you finally reach Lakshman Sagar {a property of Sewara Hospitality} and look around you, it may not be too difficult to imagine it as the hunting lodge from the late 19th century {built by the then Thakur of Raipur, Lakshman Singh}, that it actually was. But take a step into one of the cottages along the man-made lake {they have six on both sides of the lake} and you will be gently brought back to the present. Made with mud, stone and wood {following a sustainable design}, the simple-looking cottages are brightly decorated within. And the best part? Each room opens on to a private plunge pool where you can splash about or just laze around, taking in the view before you. So, while you do get to experience the rustic country life of Rajasthan in this reinterpreted, secluded resort, it’s no less luxurious. Read more

Lakshman Sagar: An Idyllic Getaway for those who like it Slow

Have you heard of the term JoMO, the new much-loved antonym of FoMO? For the uninititaied, while FoMO is the Fear of Missing Out, JoMO is the Joy of Missing Out. JoMO is being increasingly used to describe the kind of holiday urban dwellers seek away from the hustle bustle of city life. Abiding by its philosophy of ‘slow-living’, Lakshman Sagar located in Pali district of Rajasthan ( a smooth two hour hour drive from Ajmer, as the highway is surprisingly good!) is an ideal getaway if you are seeking such a holiday. There is limited, actually truth be told no network in rooms and each cottage is secluded, kilometers away from another. All you see from your room is the expansive jungle and all you hear are the sounds of peacocks, birds and some other animals. Sounds magical right! Ready for the real joy?
THE Rooms

Lakshman Sagar, a luxury boutique resort and a re-interpretation of a 19th century hunting lodge of then thakur of Raipur, has 12 mud and stone cottages spread over a whopping 32 acres. Each cottage blends into the natural topography of the place offering a visual treat to its guests.

Our 900 sq mt cottage had a baithak, a living room with kitschy bright interiors, bedroom and bathroom with rain shower, grey slate walls stocking toiletries crafted from natural ingredients like khus-khus. The cottage opened to a plunge pool overlooking the lake and the expansive jungle. The cottages, spread in two clusters on either side of the lake, don’t stand out but rather seamlessly blend in. Interiors too have all the elements of the local village adorned with the quintessential lota, bangles, jars that are part of villagers everyday life. Read more
