Shadow and Light Live at Lodi - The Garden Restaurant

Shadow and Light was born on a cold November afternoon in New Delhi, from the efforts of two people - Pavithra Chari and Anindo Bose; to unlock the potential within a few notes of music. The styles of music infused in the compositions are Hindustani classical, pop, jazz, and electronic. The vibe is contemporary and cinematic. With over two years of songwriting, the duo released their debut self-titled album in June 2014. The songs on the album are written about personal milestones and obstacles, about the eternal mystery that we call life and the little everyday things that matter to us most.

Shadow & Light have played at festivals and venues across the country including ‘Friends of Music’, ‘Chandigarh Jazz Festival’, ‘DIY Festival’ and ‘Fete de la Musique’. In 2015, they were chosen as the 1st runner ups of the ‘Sennheiser top 50’ competition and won the opportunity to record with one of Bollywood’s top production studios - ‘Flying Carpet Productions’.

THE BEST WAY TO VISIT REGAL RAJASTHAN

LAKSHMAN SAGAR, PALI, RAJASTHAN

New this season: Lakshman Sagar

Lakshman Sagar hotel is the big opening of the year here, the new kid on the block in Pali, an untamed land of desert, nomadic herders, farms and traditional villages between the Aravali hills and Jodhpur.
With one quick sweep, it has redefined the concept of the high-end heritage hotel in Rajasthan by being a completely rural experience. The point of this place is to be out there in the wilds, rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in - walking around the villages, getting involved with the locals' day-to-day lives, and even herding goats. The result is unexpectedly invigorating.

Staying here takes you away from the hordes of Rajasthan visitors. There are two beautifully restored buildings positioned around a lake, one the Mardana (male) and the other the Zenana (female) wing of a 19th-century hunting lodge erected for the Thakur of Raipur.

The Zenana has sexy pink interiors, a courtyard fountain, crazy psychedelic mosaic floors, and intimate alcoves full of cushions, silky fabrics, and knitting needles stuck into rolls of neon-pink wool; it's bonkers and wonderful. The Mardana is painted in a boyish cobalt blue and has daybeds and hidden nooks on the roof for naps, and telescopes for stargazing.

There are also 12 new cottage villas with vernacular-style exteriors, constructed entirely out of local materials and scattered over 32 acres around the lake, each with its own small rock-cut plunge pool and organic slanty sun deck. This place is low-key, but clever. The large rooms are a spritzed, creative take on a traditional Rajasthani village home. They are filled with electic everyday objects: steel tiffin boxes, desert shoes and jars of bangles. There are log fires for winter evenings and French windows for  balmy summer nights. Huge beds of crisp, white linen hover on plinths. Stone-walled bathrooms with rainforest showers have quirky treats such as pots of Ayurvedic clay and rosewater to mix into homemade face masks. The 'non-menu' dining system means you can eat anything, anywhere, anytime - and then learn how to cook it in the lodge's open kitchen, if you want.

Brilliant escorted village and farm walks take you deep into medieval stone-walled souks and to join mustachioed men rounding up their goats or bejewelled women draped in saris of vivid colours carrying pots of water from the well (which they do on their heads with the grace of ballerinas). This chance to join in with the rhythms of daily life is so much more fun than being a passive observer. It's a new look and feel for Rajasthan, traditionally so grand in so many ways.

Prim and IMproper by Vasu Primlani at Lodi - The Garden Restaurant

Lodi - The Garden Restaurant brings queen of comedy in the country Vasu Primlani.
The comedy show will focus on a scintillating look at life through the environment, based on her work in the United States, very strong social commentary, inter personal relationships, seeing India through new eyes (including how George Bush is like her mother), gender politics, men vs. women, climate change, environmental messaging, politics in a social context, a literary look at comedy, and experiences of an immigrant bumping into the culture and the laws of the United States.
Vasu is a keen observer of life around her, is often baffled by meaningless events and things. She constantly questions the notion of ‘normal’, and challenges the male-dominated and heterosexist mindset of society. She is best known for her physical humor and deadpan expressions.

SummerSpecials : Mango fiesta at Lodi- The Garden Restaurant

It is raining mango food festivals in the capital! The fruit is so well-loved by Delhiites and the restaurants are coming up with innovative ways to serve this mighty fruit. One mango festival that is definitely worth your while is going on at Lodi The Garden Restaurant, one of the finest and prettiest outdoor dining restaurants in the city. I recently attended a Bloggers Meet and here's what I've come back with.

Lodi has introduced a five course mango menu which is curated by Executive Chef Elam Singh Rana after research and various tasting trials. The refreshing mango cocktails and mocktails make for a great start to your meal- I went for the Aam Panna and Virgin Mango Mojito. The Aam Panna had a delightfully grainy and slightly thick texture. The strong cumin flavour will remind you of home. The mango mojito is the perfect summer mocktail you'd want to sip on. It was sweeter than usual but that's how I like it. As for cocktails, talk of the table were Mango Bellini, a concoction of mango pulp and sparkling wine with a gorgeous orange colour and Mango and Rosemary Margarita.

Next up, Mango and Yoghurt soup had an unusually pleasant taste and a silky texture. It also a had little bit of sparkling wine which went surprisingly well with mango and yoghurt. Bits of mint further added to the refreshing taste of the soup.

Fresh Mango and Brie salad with Balsamic vinegar was simplicity at its best. There were two different complementing varieties of mango on the plate- one extremely sweet Dussehri and one somewhat bland Safeda- which really balanced the dish. One bite and I realized that the best way to eat brie cheese is with mango! The balsamic vinegar acted as the sole dressing for the salad and frankly, it did a splendid job of binding the two components together. My absolute favourite however, was the Spicy Green Mango Salad- shredded raw mango, tomato, spring onion greens, chilli, pine nuts, coriander- with a drizzle of lemon and olive oil- it was actually a flavourful chaat disguised as a healthy salad. The pine nuts give it an extra crunch and also helps in toning down the tanginess.

For mains, initially there was only one vegetarian dish on the menu, Char Grilled Tofu which was served with herbed rice and mango puree. The chef however, sent for us vegetarians a stunning palate of Grilled Holloumi Couscous, which were grilled veggies and halloumi cheese skewers sitting gloriously on a bed of couscous. Both the dishes were satisfactory and filling. I also happened to try the classic Alfredo Penne apart from the mango menu and it was nice and cheesy.

Desserts began with a Platter of Fresh Mangoes, followed by the gooey Mango and Barley Pudding. The pudding tasted somewhat like a traditional rice kheer but it was thicker and more sticky. Topped with fresh mangoes and nuts, the chilled pudding was rich, creamy and just the right amount of sweet. The Triple layer mango and chocolate souffle was my least favourite item on the menu as personally, I have never been a fan of this combination. I loved the Home-made Mango Ice cream- it was super icey, creamy and with rich mango flavour.

I have tried quite a few summer menus in these two months, as you must have noticed on the blog. Undoubtedly, Lodi The Garden Restaurant has impressed me the most- in terms of creativity and simplicity. The food is visually so appealing and the presentation is marvellous. You'd definitely love the whole look and feel of the place, specially in the evening with the gorgeous lighting. Do give this one a try- the mango festival is on till July 1.

Melon Magic At Lodi- The Garden Restaurant - HeartBowsMakeup

As it gets more and more difficult to bear the heat, take some time off and head to Lodi – The Garden Restaurant. Enjoy Melon Magic festival this month and wink back at the sun. It is the season of melons and Lodi is offering fresh and healthy cuisine to its guests. One of the best ways to beat the heat is by indulging in seasonal fruits and the current month is all about melons. Biting into the fruit is easy and healthy; enjoy a three course meal with different types of melons as the core ingredient.

The melon menu will comprise an array of scrumptious dishes from a variety of cold soups to appetizing desserts. Absolutely perfect for a hot sunny day, start your meal with a musk melon, low fat yoghurt, ginger and fresh mint soup, a combination of sweet and sour. Get bowled over the presentation, relish the flavors of healthy and appealing salads like Sweet melon and with farm greens and crisp prosciutto with wild honey & lime vinaigrette; Watermelon, salted gout cheese and roasted pine nut with sweet balsamic dressing; The green sprouts on the side and dark brown sweet balsamic made it more visually beautiful. The melon’s sweetness meets the cheese’s sourness.
Moving to main course, savour your taste buds with Grilled sea bass with melon, mint and coriander salsa; Jerk chicken and melon skewers with house salad and water melon reduction; The wild rice inside the soft chicken gelled with melon and lime chutney and greens like cucumber, lettuce and cherry tomato. Switch to the desserts, Lodi is offering, assorted platter of melons with rose & lime reduction; Sweet melon and mint sorbet; Three melon ice cream. Askmen Reviewed Lodi - The Garden Restaurant

Far from the hustle and bustle of life, Lodi - the garden restaurant is a chic, cozy and romantic haunt in Delhi. We had the chance to sample some of its gastronomical offerings recently, and we've come back thoroughly impressed.
Ambience

As you enter the restaurant, you'll feel like you've been transported into a magical land with lanterns that dangle from tree tops, candles that gently flicker with the evening breeze, wooden carts that double up as tables, and curtained cabanas that offer its patrons a sense of privacy. Lively, vibrant, yet very homely, Lodi fuses the very best of European and Mediterranean decor to its patrons.

And as the sun fades, you will find yourself relaxing under the stars dotting the velvet black sky, in the womb of a lush green garden – well lit with a plethora of hanging lanterns.

Lodi boasts of an eclectic menu of sorts, blending in the best of European and Asian culinary delights. The chefs use fresh and mostly ‘home-grown’ seasonal ingredients from their own Noida garden, and every dish looks like a work of art— a pleasurable experience for both the eyes and the taste buds.
Every dish is meticulously crafted by the hands of Lodi's expert chefs, and this attention to detail can be felt in every bite. The best part about this place is that its chefs keep evolving the menu to keep up with the season, the demand and the expectations of the customer.
From food festivals to fresh menus per quarter, Lodi does what others in the restaurant business fail to provide - a seasonal upgrade. Customers can pair their meals with a drink from the full-serviced bar as well.

The main course

- Salad: We tried two types of salads. First one was made up of farm fresh greens, tomatoes, pear, sunflower seeds & goat cheese with extra virgin olive oil & honey dressing. Not only was it refreshing, but the hint of goat cheese worked as a superb palette cleanser.

The second salad was a raw papaya salad with runner beans, shallots & coriander leaf, garnished with cracked peanuts and burnt chili.
- Starters: For starters, we tried the ‘bharwa mirch paneer’, a dish where the sweetness of goat cheese intertwines with the crispy outer layer of mirch, served with plenty of sweet chilli oil. Next up was a portion of crispy prawns doused in sesame seeds. These tasted as good as they sound.

- Pasta: The vegetarian penne pasta is their most talked about dish. And for good reason. It's light and healthy, cooked in olive oil, and enhanced with just the right amount of basil and garlic

- Spare ribs: The pork ribs glazed with house barbecue sauce will melt in your mouth. Coated with the adequate amount of spices, their smoked baby back ribs are a must try.

Dessert

We definitely recommend their home made fig ice-cream for one. The strawberry cheesecake is downright heavenly, and the banoffee pie is excellent too. However, with a loving blend of deep-dark caramel, the fig ice-cream was a showstopper.

So would we make another trip to this restaurant? Absolutely, but not just for the food. The staff is extremely courteous as well, and as we've already mentioned, the ambiance is stellar. This place is perfect for a family outing, especially if you're looking at a Sunday Brunch.
