Shadow and Light at Lodi - The Garden Restaurant

Shadow and Light was born on a cold November afternoon in New Delhi, from the efforts of two people - Pavithra Chari and Anindo Bose; to unlock the potential within a few notes of music. The styles of music infused in the compositions are Hindustani classical, pop, jazz, and electronic. The vibe is contemporary and cinematic.
With over two years of songwriting, the duo released their debut self-titled album in June 2014. The songs on the album are written about personal milestones and obstacles, about the eternal mystery that we call life and the little everyday things that matter to us most.
Shadow & Light have played at festivals and venues across the country including ‘Friends of Music’, ‘Chandigarh Jazz Festival’, ‘DIY Festival’ and ‘Fete de la Musique’. In 2015, they were chosen as the 1st runner ups of the ‘Sennheiser top 50’ competition and won the opportunity to record with one of Bollywood’s top production studios - ‘Flying Carpet Productions’.

dubhajan: Amarrass Nights@Lodi with Ravana + Bagga Khan

We welcome the New Year with a special, beh-tareen, shudh desi double bill featuring RAVANA and BAGGA KHAN.

Ravana {: a 'mirage' as a metaphor / allure } ! Producer, DJ and 'kitsch' sampling agent ! Based in New Delhi, Shravan a.k.a Ravana, re-emerging and re-inventing his moniker via Drum N Bass/Jungle/Break-core/dub. His new songs are raw, gritty and with thought provoking form - gradually inviting the listener to a dark experience. The perverse use of retroactive speeches, voices and old Bollywood songs, over a smokey canvas of sampled sounds and relentless hard quantized beats chuffed with dubby bass-lines and psychedelic washouts. Back for a special set at Amarrass Nights @ Lodi after a memorable 'Mirza Ghalib in Dub' session at the 2014 Amarrass Music Festival.

Bagga Khan, from Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan, India, is one of the finest Manganiyar bhajan singers. A master of the tambura (a plucked stringed instrument similar to the tanpura), and with a voice that elevates the mysticism in the devotional songs he sings - bhajans and dohas written by Kabir, Meerabai, and Tulsidas. His songs have been featured in 'Mitha Bol: Field Recordings from the Indian Desert' (2011 Amarrass Records) (5 stars in Songlines, nominated for Best Folk Album at the GiMAs). "The secular bhajans sung by Bagga Khan, accompanied by strummed tambura, lilting hand-drums and metallic percussion that echoes the click-clack of Touareg music, from another desert on another continent." - The WIRE: Adventures in Modern Sound.

Chizai Live Music at Lodi - The Garden Restaurant

Chizai is a group of acoustic Entertainers from Delhi. The group started when a singer who plays Guitar and a drummer/percussionists started playing their hearts out in early 2013. Of course a drum kit was too big to carry, so Chizai made a home made instrument that was portable and sounded similar to acoustic drum settings. They made there own sound and called it (Drumbin) because its a drum that is made out of a dustbin bucket. It gives them a unique, calm and joyful sound.Joining them in their band and hence in their musical journey is a very talented trampoline artist from Japan,a vibrant girl called Chi. Their selection of covers is something everyone wants to sing along to. They have been playing every week in cafes, concerts and restaurants ever since.

Prim and IMproper by Vasu Primlani at Lodi - The Garden Restaurant

Lodi - The Garden Restaurant brings queen of comedy in the country Vasu Primlani.
The comedy show will focus on a scintillating look at life through the environment, based on her work in the United States, very strong social commentary, inter personal relationships, seeing India through new eyes (including how George Bush is like her mother), gender politics, men vs. women, climate change, environmental messaging, politics in a social context, a literary look at comedy, and experiences of an immigrant bumping into the culture and the laws of the United States.
Vasu is a keen observer of life around her, is often baffled by meaningless events and things. She constantly questions the notion of ‘normal’, and challenges the male-dominated and heterosexist mindset of society. She is best known for her physical humor and deadpan expressions.
